Women’s ready for Siam showdown

20/05/2019

Jersey Reds Women's squad for their Women's Siam Cup clash with Guernsey has been announced.

Head Coach George Eastwell (also selected to play in First XV Siam Cup fixture) has named his strongest possible 22, as the women aim to finish their sucessful 2018/19 season with a victory on home turf against their rivals.

Holly Bertram takes the number 1 jersey and also the captain's armband in the absence of regular skipper Lauren Lowe, in what will draw a conclusion to her strong debut season. Paris Ozouf joins Holly in the Front-Row at Tighthead Prop. Amber Hopwood will link the two props and start in the Hooker role.

17-year old star Willow Le Luan leads the Second Row and is joined by the side's 'Most Improved Player' Kerry Le Lievre. The starting back-row cosists of Kim Vallance (Blind) and Pippa Donovan (Open) on the flanks. Player of the Year, Kerry Bertram completes the forwards when she packs down at Number 8.

The experienced Rosie Corbett is handed the 15 shirt, and starts at full-back. The coaches hope that the open space that she should be afforded will give her the opportunity to use her blistering pace to exploit the Raiders defence. It's a mixture of pace and power on the wings. Top Tryscorer, Taye Boakye-Yiadom will reside on the left wing, with Gaby Linstead over on the right.

The centre berth's will be taken by players who already have Siam Cup experience. Roxy Rice wears 12, with Emily Hart moving to 13.

In the halves, Australian import Bridgett Glasson will wear the number 9 shirt for the last time before her move to London. Sophie Lee, who returned from London this week will look to direct all Reds attacking moves from Fly-Half.

The forward replacements all have previous Siam Cup experience. Elsa Rocha, Lucy Hart, Amy Carter & Franky Vautier have all appeared previously. The replacement backs will offer pace off the bench with Lauryn Blackmore, Sapphire De La Haye & Lauren Trachy completing the Reds squad.

Kick off is at 12.15pm, and the girls are looking forward to playing a role in what should be a historic day for Jersey Rugby.
