Nicky Griffiths to leave Jersey

03/12/2014

Jersey's Nicky Griffiths is to leave the club after
three-and-a-half years. The scrum-half is to return to his home in
South Wales for family reasons and has reached a mutual agreement
with JRFC to be released from the final six months of his two-year
contract.

Griffiths, who has also represented Wales at seven-a-side, Under
21 and Under 18 levels, arrived on the Island in summer 2011 as
Jersey prepared for their first season in National Division One; he
departs as the club lie sixth in the Greene King IPA
Championship.

"It's been a great journey, and I'm disappointed to be leaving
the Island," he said. " I'm grateful that the club have been
supportive in agreeing my release so that I'm able to return to
Wales."

Griffiths added: "I've loved my time in Jersey, and it's become
a real home-from-home. There have been some great moments,
including winning National One and the final day of last season
when we won at Bedford, and I'll have some special memories of my
time here.

"I'd like to thank everyone connected with the club for all
they've done and particularly the fans for their great
support."

Jersey RFC Chairman Bill Dempsey said: "Nicky has played a major
part in what the club has achieved during his time here and we'll
be sad to see him go. But personal matters have arisen which have
left him wanting to return home to his family - we respect his
position and he departs with our best wishes for the future."
