The Jersey RFC squad for next season is taking shape, with the
club announcing that nine players have signed new deals, meaning
they will be back at St Peter in June when pre-season conditioning
ahead of the 2015/16 campaign begins.
Lock Nick Campbell, back-row man Nick Haining and hooker Joe
Buckle - who has switched to the front row from flanker this season
- have signed two-year contracts stretching until May 2017, while
new one-year deals have been agreed with another six players:
Argentine front-row duo Ignacio Lancuba and Martin Garcia-Veiga,
locks Dave Markham and Pierce Phillips, fly-half Aaron Penberthy
and three-quarter Mark McCrea.
Those players whose new deals have been announced this week will
be joined in next season's squad by Club Captain Alex Rae, who
signed a new contract in January covering the next two seasons, and
six players whose existing deals run until May 2016: props Sam
Lockwood, Harry Williams and Danny Herriott, plus backs Lewis
Robling, Fautua Otto and Jack Burroughs.
"We've been working hard to shape the core of next season's
squad while at the same time retaining our focus on the current
campaign, which includes another five important league games," said
Head Coach Harvey Biljon. "Discussions are continuing with some of
our existing players, but it's inevitable that there will be a
summer turnover of players, with a number of new signings and
others who will be moving on."
"I'm very pleased with the progress that we've made so far,"
Biljon added. "The aim is to make Jersey an established
Championship club and we are lining up the personnel we need to
achieve this goal."
