Jersey release hooker Jason Thomas

07/11/2014

Jason Thomas has been released by JRFC and will return to South
Africa following a trial with the Championship side.

The hooker came to the Island in early August and played in the
pre-season matches against Bath and Blackheath, but did not feature
in any of Jersey's competitive action in September or October.

Head Coach Harvey Biljon said that although he was disappointed
that Thomas had decided to return home, he fully supported his
fellow countryman's decision.

"Jason was unlucky not to get more game time during his time in
Jersey," Biljon said. "He was a committed member of the squad and
definitely made an impression, however our other new signings at
hooker have both been fit and in good form since August and injury
prevented Jason from getting an opportunity during our recent
British & Irish Cup games.

"We'd like to thank Jason for his efforts here and wish him all
the best for the future."

Biljon added that at present the club were not looking at
replacing Thomas, with hooker Dave Felton expected to return from
injury in the coming weeks.

Club Chairman Bill Dempsey said Jersey RFC would like to thank
Jason Cowleard, Managing Director of Nautilus Trust, for his
support in giving Thomas the opportunity to join Jersey.
