Jersey Reds 13 Bedford Blues 15

30/09/2017

A frustrating afternoon for the Reds saw them lose by two points against the Blues.

Coming into the game Bedford had been scoring tries for fun in previous matches, so to contain that was a good result, but unfortunately the home side found it tough going to breach a stubborn Blues defence.

The first half yielded very little. Brendan Cope, playing at fullback scored a rare drop goal after 15 minutes, and that was cancelled out later in the half by a Bedford penalty to leave the scores level 3-3 at the break.

The second half needed to spark into life for both teams, but this only happened in patches.

Jersey's try came from a catch and drive move in the airport corner, and was brilliantly converted by Cope. At that stage the home faithful could have thought 4 points were there for the taking, but the Blues had other thoughts.

A well placed kick into scoreboard corner by the visitors put them in the dangerzone, and when the Reds failed to clear their lines, the Blues forced their way over for the winning try.
