Woolmore flies in to fill front row gap01/04/2016
Jersey have signed prop forward Jake Woolmore on loan from Exeter Chiefs. The 25-year-old arrived on the Island yesterday and is expected to feature in the squad to take on Rotherham Titans at St Peter tomorrow.
The new signing has been sanctioned by the RFU under the regulation that enables front row players to be transferred after the transfer deadline in late February under exceptional circumstances, in order that a club has sufficient front row resources. This follows injuries to props Sam Lockwood and Ignacio Lancuba in Jersey's last two games.
Although the current arrangement is a short-term loan deal, Woolmore has also agreed a permanent move to Jersey at the end of the current season.
The London-born loose-head signed for Chiefs last summer and has appeared for the Chiefs in the Aviva 'A' League and LV Cup. He has also featured as a dual-registered player for his previous club Taunton Titans, for whom he has made around 70 appearances in National Two South over the past three seasons.
Jersey Head Coach Harvey Biljon said: "Jake will have to hit the ground running, but he's made an immediate impression at training and I'm hopeful he will be an asset to the squad straight away, as well as in the longer term when he joins us permanently in the summer."
