Jersey 17 Bedford Blues 3

Jersey put in a solid all-round performance throughout the game with a try in each half to overcome a good Bedford Blues side.

Whilst the rain stayed away during the game, earlier showers meant that it was wet and muddy underfoot, making for testing conditions. That said, both sides started off playing with confidence and pace, eager to pass the ball around and run it at every opportunity.

The stalemate was finally broken after 20 minutes when Bedford kicked an easy penalty from in front of the posts to make it 0-3.

Jersey who had dominated territory without reward finally scored on the stroke of half time as Locke went over in the corner. Penberthy converted and it was 7-3 at the break.

The Jersey forwards who played really well as a unit throughout, dominating line out plays, and taking some ball against the throw finally got just reward with a try from a scrum deep in the Bedford 22. PK broke at the back, but was held up. At the second attempt Phillips got over the whitewash and Penberthy again added the extras.

A late Penberthy penalty extended the advantage, and Bedford had no answer.
