Mylo wins Groundsman award06/12/2013
JRFC Head Groundsman, Myles Landick won a top award last night at the Institiute of Groundsmanship awards ceremony in Coventry.
Myles, who is also a member of the Jersey 1st team squad, currently working his way back to full fitness after a serious knee injury, was nominated for the Professional Rugby Union Groundsman of the Year award. He then found himself on a final short list of two, up against the Head Groundsman from Premiership side, Worcester Warriors, but was the man chosen as the winner.
A representative from the IOG visited Jersey recently to inspect the pitches and to ask a few more questions about the type of machinery used and the annual budget apportioned to working on the JRFC grounds.
Myles said, "To be honest when I was told that I had been shortlisted, I didn't think that I stood a chance, especially when I knew who I was up against. Having said that, apart from inspecting the pitches, the judges take a number of other factors into consideration including how we apportion our budget, and maybe that worked in my favour."
Landick thanked his father, Steve for help and guidance over the last few years; "Dad has been a real inspiration, and it has been fantastic to have a job where I can combine learning a trade alongside training and playing for the Island".
