Ben Evans leaves Jersey RFC06/12/2012
Player-Coach Ben Evans has left Jersey Rugby Club. The former Welsh international, who came to the Island in summer 2011, met club officials this week, with Chairman Bill Dempsey issuing a statement after the meeting.
"We regret to announce that Ben Evans is giving up his role as Player-Coach," Dempsey said. "This decision was reached by mutual consent, after a review in which the challenges of combining the two elements of his role were discussed.
"It was agreed that it would be in the best interests of all parties for Ben to relinquish his position. This will enable him to pursue other career ambitions, while the rugby club regroups and focuses on the second half of a very important season."
Director of Rugby Ben Harvey paid tribute to Evans' contribution during his time with Jersey.
"Ben was a very positive presence in our squad from the moment he arrived, and played a major role, both on and off the field, in our successful campaign as champions of National One last season," Harvey said. "His passion and commitment towards Jersey rugby were never in doubt and he leaves with our very best wishes for the future.
