U13s v Shoreham Match Report Nov 1606/11/2016
The U13’s first Sussex league game of the season was played on Sunday 6th November at Shoreham and despite going losing the game heavily, the Jersey boys gave a good account of themselves.
It was a difficult introduction to league rugby and they faced an experienced Shoreham side that had been playing together since they were six. Their forwards were big but the backs were even bigger. They soon put that size advantage to use and started to get the score board ticking over with some well taken tries. The game was over as a contest before half time but the Jersey boys refused to be give up. They started the second half well and for large parts of that half they were within touching distance of getting on the scoreboard. Unfortunately the final pass did not go to the hand and play was taken back into the Jersey half.
All the squad acquitted themselves well but special mention must be given to the smallest player on the pitch Anushan Elanco, who made some darting runs against the Shoreham giants. Prop Max Tennant made some storming runs with ball in hand and Cole Graham playing out of position at 10 had an impressive game.
The most pleasing aspect from a Jersey point of view was that their heads never dropped, they played to the best of their ability particularly in the second half and made an impression on their hosts as Dan Pattenden, the Shoreham under 13’s manager commented
“Whilst the games score may reflect a one sided affair, the gut determination and moral of your lads was a credit to your club, they did not give up the fight at all and made our boys work right to the final whistle. "
The final score Shoreham 50 Jersey 0.
