Argentine referee to take charge of Jersey29/01/2014
Argentine referee Francisco Pastrana will take charge of this
weekend's game between Jersey and Bristol in the Greene King IPA
Last year the 34-year-old official from Buenos Aires became the first foreigner to referee in the Super Rugby tournament for sides from South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.
Pastrana was an Assistant Referee for the 2013 RBS 6 Nations
clash between France and Wales, and has appointments in the opening
rounds of this year's 6N. The day before taking charge of Jersey's
game at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol he will officiate alongside
two other ex-players: Irish referee John Lacey and former Saracens
fly-half Glen Jackson; while in round 2 he will be part of the team
of three officials for the France v Italy match in Paris.
A former fly-half whose career was ended by injury, Pastrana began refereeing in 2004. His first international appointment was for in the IRB Junior World Championship in 2009 and in the same year he took charge of a Rugby World Cup qualification match between Uruguay and the USA.
Jersey's match with promotion hopefuls Bristol kicks off at 3pm on Sunday at the Memorial Stadium. A full preview will be published later in the week on www.jrfc.je
