UNDER 12s Trip to Saint-Pere, France - MATCH REPORT

Saint -pere

Saturday 28th January saw our U12s embark on their first tour of their season to St Pere rugby club France, for a local festival tournament.

Eryk In Full Flow

With the tournament already up and running jersey U12s had little time to prepare. Their first opponents were hoists St Pere. The lack of preparation and away from home nerves saw Jersey off to a slow start but with some direct running from captain Larry Strong gave the U12s a good platform for the forwards, second row Samuel McLoughlin must have had his shredded wheat for breakfast because wherever there was a breakdown there was Samuel.

The Forwards In The Thick Of It

The backs were not going to be left out of the limelight, and with Dan Daly's trademark show and go at fly half meant the gaps were opening for the backline to score a brace of tries to see the game off 9-0.

Seth Looking For A Way Through

Our U12s second opponents Dinan, who were watching from the side lines knew from the start that they had to beat our forwards up front if they were to stop our back line threat. The game started at an intense pace with every breakdown being fiercely competed. With Jerseys Joseph Dagilan, Evan Elias-Rees and Josh Brint taking the challenge to Dinan, saw our forwards win the battle and the gain line. With Dinan slowly tiring gave Jersey back line of Etienne H Jackson, Sam Harvey, Dan Daly, Larry Strong, Archie Rankin, Eryk Swiech and Samuel Pinel too much space to see a convincing second half converted to a 9-0 Final Score.

Larry Means Business

Jerseys U12s final match was against Saint-Brieuc. With their powerful forwards and fast backs Jersey were going to be up against their toughest test yet. This was going to be a battle of the forwards. The game started again at a fierce pace with neither side giving a metre. Then came the break, a dummy from hooker Seth Ruelle saw the parting of the white and reds of Saint-Brieuc to set up a team try by one of the back line.

A Saint -Brieuc Player Under Pressure

Jersey had found their stride, with the forwards working as a unit and the backs orchestrating the play meant there was only one outcome. Jerseys U12s were on their way to a final victory without conceding a single try.

Archie At Speed

Whist the U12s celebrated their on-field success, the real success must be given to Saint Pere. As hosts their welcoming organisation and appreciation was second to none and they were a credit to the sport we all love. Rugby was the winner on the day.
